NOP invites you to its last concert of the season. The NOP orchestra is an inter-arts orchestra using joysticks to perform visual and sound pieces. Improvisation and creation made in New Zealand are the focus of this orchestra.

For its 10th year anniversary, the Corban Estate Art Centre invites NOP to propose free workshops at 10.30 am and 1.30 pm for all the family and a great free concert by the Auckland joystick orchestra at 3 pm. See you all the 9th of September at the Corban Estate Art Centre.

One of the highlights of the games-as-art focused Joue le Jeu (Play Along) exhibition at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris, was Electricity Comes From Other Planets, a delightful audiovisual music remixing installation from Fred & Company (Fred Deakin and Nat Hunter). The project offers visitors a chance to become composers and musicians, collaborating with friends and strangers on creating a soundtrack by triggering different tracks of music as they move through the space.

L’exposition Joue le Jeu à la Gaité Lyrique à Paris présentait l’installation sonore, visuelle et interactive fort appréciée Electricity Comes From Other Planets de Fred & Company (Fred Deakin and Nat Hunter). L’installation invite le visiteur à devenir compositeur et musicien en collaborant avec les autres visiteurs. Chacun de ses mouvements déclenche différents samples et organisent ensemble un grand ensemble musical et visuel.

The sound and visual piece « K » for joystick orchestra, created  by Stuart Grimshaw, has its score. This score uses a specific graphic langage to write mouvment for the player. As a classical orchestra score, there are scores for players and a score for the conductor. This score will be available on the web in few months through the online library for joystick orchestra: la Méta-Labrairie.

La pièce sonore et visuelle « K » pour orchestre de joysticks, créée par Stuart Grimshaw, a maintenant sa partition. Cette partition utilise un système graphique spécifique pour indiquer les mouvements à réaliser par le joueurs. Également, comme une partition traditionnelle d’orchestre, il y a des partitions pour les joueurs et une pour le chef d’orchestre. Cette partition sera disponible en ligne dans quelques mois grâce à  la web librairie dédiée aux orchestres de joysticks: la Méta-Librairie.

Sean Kerr and Andrew McMillan are working together since few weeks to create a new piece for the NOP orchestra. Tomorrow will be the first rehearsal with the orchestra. If you want to discover DOT, you are welcome to assist to the rehearsal. It is from 6.30 to 8.30 pm at CoLab (AUT tower building, 1 Wakefield street, Auckland CBD). Just send a text to 021 550 397.

Sean Kerr et Andrew McMillan travaillent ensemble depuis plusieurs semaines pour créer une nouvelle pièce pour l’orchestre NOP. Demain aura lieu la première répétition avec l’orchestre. If you live in Paris, PUCE MUSE recruites musicians for his joystick orchestra: le Meta-Orchestre. The rehearsals begin the 14th of May for a first concert in July in Paris.

Si vous habitez à Paris, PUCE MUSE recrute des musiciens pour son orchestre de joysticks: le Méta-Orchestre. Les répétitions débutent le 14 mai pour une premier concert en juillet à Paris.

From the 3rd of April, the joystick orchestra will practice a new programme:
- DOT from Sean Kerr and Andrew McMillan, a new creation made in NZ supported by Creative New Zealand.
- InC by Terry Riley. It is a piece wrotten in 1964 and it can played by any kind of instrument. A version for joystick is available.
- Meta-Sacre by Serge de Laubier. It is based on the classical piece « Rite of spring » by Stravinsky but transformed in a version really more electronic!
- Improvisation. Our last improvisation based on the players’ samples was a great success so let’s continue and develop this with new samples!
- K by Stuart Grinshaw. This first kiwi creation for joysticks is a part of the repertoire now so let’s continue to practice it.

À partir du 3 avril, l’orchestre de joysticks va commencer à travailler un nouveau programme:

– InC de Terry Riley. Cette pièce écrite en 1964 peut-être jouée par différents instruments. Une version pour joysticks est disponible.
– Meta-Sacre de Serge de Laubier. Cette pièce est basée sur l’œuvre classique « Le Sacre du Printemps » de Stravinsky mais revisitée électroniquement!
– Improvisation. Notre dernière improvisation basée sur des sons amenés par les joueurs a été un vrai succès. On continue donc à explorer cette piste avec de nouveaux sons.
– K de Stuart Grinshaw. Cette première pièce néo-zélandaise pour joysticks fait maintenant partie du répertoire donc on va continuer à la travailler.

Come at the Auckland International Cultural Festival and experiment the joystick orchestra. 11 people from the audience will come on stage to discover this new instrument and play together for 20 min. Free session at the French Corner at 11.30 am and 3 pm for all the family. And there will be also some crêpes and pétanque around!

Que faites-vous ce dimanche? Rendez-vous au Auckland International Cultural et venez expérimenter l’orchestre de joysticks. 11 personnes du public seront invitées à venir sur scène pour découvrir ce nouvel instrument et jouer ensemble pendant 20 min. Sessions gratuites dans la partie française à 11h30 et 15h pour toute la famille. Et en plus il y a aura des crêpes et de la pétanque à proximité!
